Mental Health Professionals Instead of Police

A new program in Denver, known as the Support Team Assisted Response Program, or STAR, directs a two-person team consisting of a paramedic and a mental health clinician in a van to respond to nonviolent 911 calls instead of traditional uniformed police officers.

Change in Chemical Restraints Law

In response to the death of Elijah McClain, the Colorado State Legislature passed House Bill 21-1251 to substantially limit a first responder’s use of chemical restraints, such as ketamine.
